Black Turmeric
Curcuma caesia

Turmeric is full of curcumin and comes in a range of colors and strengths. Orange is commonly used in food and medicine while black is a much stronger medicine.

Black Turmeric Root

Curcuma caesia

Black turmeric is a less known relative of the more common orange turmeric, but it is so strong that it is only used medicinally, both internally and externally.

Rhizomes have an interesting blue color and smell similar to camphor. The name is derived from the dark, almost black stripe along the leaf mid-vein.

Plant 3″ deep in the spring, will sprout in 4 weeks, harvest in the fall. In the tropics, harvest after the leaves have died back.
